Official WVAG Website update

THE NEW WVAG WEBSITE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!! View it here…www.airbrushdesigns.net/WVAG/index.html This is just the test server until it is done and ready to move over to the WVAG’s web hosting server.

Please look over the following webpage list and e-mail Mark at markm@airbrushdesigns.net with any information or suggestions that you can provide in order to get our new website up and running!

This is what we need…

HOMEPage – This is what people will see first. We need a defining image, slogan,  mission statement or brief description.

ABOUT USPage – A lengthier description of the WVAG. It’s history,  something VERY descriptive and informative to entice viewers to want to know more about us…or to join!

GALLERYPage – Photos of Art Show Winners (well, their art too). Featured Artist of the month. An online, virtual gallery that we can use to promote and possibly sell our artwork!!!

ARTISTSPage – This will be an online, visual WVAG Artist directory so I need input from EVERY MEMBER!!! I need a name, photo of artist (head shot at least), photo of one or two favorite pieces, a biography and list of awards. We can put a link to artist’s website if one is available under that artists listing.

SHOWSPage – This is where we will put up a schedule of upcoming shows as well as slide shows of artwork shown, movie files, interviews with artist’s, judges, etc., so we have a visual documentary of the WVAG art shows.  I need help from anyone willing to put in the time to get photos down to small file sizes (yet the highest quality possible) so these load fast.

FORMSPage – This will be a repository for ALL Forms from the WVAG so we don’t have to do as much mass mailing of forms. It doesn’t have to be just the Art Show Forms. It can be used for all kinds of forms, info sheets that might normally be mailed, or even member questionnaires, etc. We can use the money saved and put it to better use. This won’t replace the mailings entirely. I would encourage as many of us as possible to use the Forms page to not only save money, but save time for those who do all this work now. They will be in pdf format so anyone can download them. I need electronic files of all forms sent to me. They can be in Word or the like as I can convert them to pdf for the Forms page.  Eventually I would like all of our forms available to be electronically submitted so we do can do away with all of the paper. Yeah, I know…some people haven’t moved into the digital 21st century yet and can’t handle going paperless. I hold out hope for it though. I suggest that we create and mail a form for EVERY MEMBER to fill out where they explicitly require forms be mailed to them, or will download them.  That will take all the guesswork out as to who needs them mailed.

BLOGPage – I see this as the lifeblood of our group as we only meet once a month and Rick is doing a FABULOUS job with it!!! If we move all of our forms to the FORMS page, Rick won’t need to be bothered with those.

LINKSPage – Any Suggestions for the Links page would be welcome. We have some on there now, but I would like to have this page categorized so that this page can serve us all for many things. We can use it to post links to Art Supply dealers online, Art Museum websites, Art Instruction websites, etc. Really any kind of info related to Art that can help us as artists!!!

CONTACT USPage – Obviously this will be limited to info@wvaguild.com and webmaster@wvaguild.com e-mail addresses. But if anyone would like to take on some more responsibility it would probably be appreciated.

Again, this website can do some great things for the WVAG, but it’s only going to be as good as the members want to make it. I’m a full time artist and I have limited time to work on it. If anyone has an interest in helping to work directly on this website, including photo editing, data entry, updating and maintaining it, I would love it!  You only have to have a computer, broadband internet and an interest in helping out and I will train and work with anyone who wants to contribute. It’s not that difficult…just time consuming.

The possibilities are endless.

The Monthly meeting social hour starts at 5:00 PM on Thursday March 20th  in the second floor conference room.

Topics include the new web site and the new blog! See separate listing here in the blog to find out more about the blog progress.
There will be a discussion about the awards from the Cattails and Flowers show accompanied by the artists descrpition of the work and the judges notes.
Call Weston Center for directions at 715-393-1000 or Click here to fill in your address and get directions from your house!!
Check here next week for info on how the meeting went!!

Since it would appear I am going to have to be in Dallas for training early Friday Morning I have made this sheet available to Christine to copy or pass around at the meeting tomorrow night.  You can click it here or look at it at the meeting but it basically says this.  The Blog is going great..  I think it is doing what it is supposed to which is keep the members informed as to what is going on and what is upcoming and dates and times and where it's members are showing their art and how the current shows are going etc etc.  If you click on the page on the left here it will enlarge and show that I pasted a couple random pages showing the number of "hits" as being an average of 8 per day, and that in the previous 32 hours there had been 25 hits on the blog!  That's really good for a blog as new as ours.  Most had come from Wisconsin but one came from Canada and one came from France!  75% were typed in specifically to see our blog and 25% were gotten to by links from other web sites.  That means there are other sites that link to ours which is crucial for web traffic!

In a nutshell it is going this well because you send me the updates and images needed to keep it a viable ongoing blog instead of a once a month thing that people tire of checking.

Be sure to click on the "Subscribe" list on the right of this blog to be notified of updates instead of having to check it occasionally.

Thanks

again and keep me updated as to what's news in your art!

Thanks

Now you can subscribe to WVAG Blog!

I have made it possible to "subscribe" to the WVAG blog.  It was pretty arduous programming but it seems to work pretty well for me.
I am a Mac guy but it also works on my wifes Yahoo account.
What this does is puts a RSS "feed" by your e-mail that has all of the additions to the blog in there so you don't have to get online and type the address for our blog in every time you want to see whats up at the guild.
There is a "Subscribe" link on the right side of this blog at the top of the blue bar section.  (You have to scroll down a bit) and then click on it and follow the easy instructions that may vary depending on your computer.
You can even click (in Yahoo anyway) to have it send you a e-mail when there is a new entry.
As you can see it lists all of the entries as separate e-mails (somehow).  Pretty cool really.

A Video walkthrough of the whole show!!

Sharon Dowis "Upstream People Gallery" Exhibit

Check out the Upstream People Gallery "Faces" Exhibit of Sharon Dowis Work!
Judges stated the following about her image............

SHARON L. DOWIS of Wausau, Wisconsin has captured perhaps one of the most interesting representations of a cat in the square formatted photograph of “Mr. Beau J.” showing the clever cropping and the fine details of the fur. The cat’s face at the upper left and the flow of the fur and tail make for a rich piece in an unusual composition.
