The Art of Hanging Art. A great Webinar

Is this Level? | A Scientific Approach to Hanging Paintings | A Free Broadcast from Xanadu Gallery
Join us for a Webinar on March 29
Space is limited.
Reserve your Webinar seat now at:
https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/325686458
Is there a right way to hang a painting?  A wrong way? Maybe not, but I invite you to join me Tuesday, March 29 from 4:00 - 4:40 p.m. Pacific for a free broadcast where I will share everything I know about hanging paintings. With almost 20 years in the gallery business, and being somewhat fanatical about keeping the gallery fresh, I have probably hung more paintings than just about anyone on the planet.

Now, I know what you're saying - "How could anyone possibly spend 40 minutes talking about hanging a picture, it can't be that hard, can it?" There's only one way to find out, so join me Tuesday!

During this free broadcast you will learn:
  • The right tools for the job and where to get them
  • How to prepare the installation site to hang the work
  • A scientific approach to measuring
  • Secrets to getting the artwork level and keeping it that way
  • Approaches to hanging in difficult situations

Registration is free, but limited (and we are strictly limiting sign-ups so that if you register you can be sure to get in), so sign up now.

Also, I am going to ask you to do two things once you've registered:

1.    Forward this invitation to two friends who you feel would benefit from the broadcast
2.    If you haven't already, friend me on Facebook (facebook.com/jason.horejs) or follow me on Twitter (twitter.com/jasonhorejs).

I don't pretend to know everything about hanging art and I would love to hear what you've learned over the years about hanging art. What have you done that you've found successful? What have you done that hasn't worked so well? I'm especially interested in hearing your horror stories (e.g. the one that fell).

Email me at jason@xanadugallery.com with your experiences - Subject line should be "Painting installation tips."

Have questions you would like me to cover during the broadcast? Email me at jason@xanadugallery.com and enter "Hanging Questions" in the subject line.

I look forward to having you join me for the session.

If you missed any of our previous broadcasts, you may view recordings at http://www.xanadugallery.com/ArtistSvcs/Broadcasts/index.asp.

Please note the start time for this broadcast in your time zone. There will be one broadcast Tuesday, March 29th

If you are in the Pacific Time Zone your start time is 4:00 p.m.
Arizona start time is 4:00 p.m.
Mountain Time Zone start time is 5:00 p.m.
Central Time Zone start time is 6:00 p.m.
Eastern Time Zone start time is 7:00 p.m.

Arts Funding. Thanks Sharon!

From: "Tzougros, George - WAB"
Date: March 18, 2011 3:20:07 PM CDT
To: Arts Board
Subject: Arts Board responds to Governor's proposed 2011-13 Budget

Dear friends and partners,

The Wisconsin Arts Board decided at its meeting last Friday to actively contest Governor Walker's proposal to cut state funding for the arts by 73%, eliminate the Wisconsin Arts Board as a state agency, transfer its four remaining staff members to staff a program within the Department of Tourism, and count the remaining funds associated with the arts under the column of Marketing. More details can be found in the attached document, which outlines why the WAB finds his proposal in direct conflict with the goal to create jobs and economic recovery and growth for our state.

The Arts Board has enjoyed an increasingly productive and mutually supportive relationship with the Department of Tourism over our 38 year history, each agency focused on its unique mission but lending expertise and leveraging strength for the other. Our work is not redundant. Wisconsin, now more than ever, needs a state agency specifically focused on the arts and cultural infrastructure of its communities large and small, an agency that also provides a point of investment for that infrastructure. The state actually needs to invest in the arts to ensure the context and conditions that will make our economy robust and prosperous.

The Arts Board will lead non-partisan advocacy for restoration of the agency in the budget. We ask you to share these talking points with your Board of Directors, those on your mailing lists, and to expand your lists with every opportunity that a new audience or group is gathered. Your communications with Assembly and State Senate representatives in your district should include vivid narratives about what it would mean to lose both the grants and the counsel of WAB, your measure of the deep public value of this agency. If your legislators do not serve on the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) [list attached], then we suggest that you ask both legislators to communicate with members on that committee on your behalf, asking that they restore the Wisconsin Arts Board with funding that reflects an appropriate 10% cut. And of course it would be helpful for you to also contact JFC members yourselves, as they serve on that committee as representatives of us all.

I also invite your suggestions for increased advocacy or for ways we can partner with you and support successfully casting a wide net across the state to harness shared determination to restore the possibility of a sturdy, inclusive economy.

With my gratitude for your hard work,

Barbara Lawton
Chair, Wisconsin Arts Board

Gov. Walker mistakes zoos for art, art for tourism Or: Woodland Pattern, and the virtues of elephant dung vs. cultural programming
AVClubMilwaukee

Way back when he was just a wee little tyrant running for Milwaukee County Executive, Scott Walker was asked what his most recent encounter with the arts was. His answer? The zoo. One of the less-bandied-about parts of Walker’s budget-gutting atrocity is the plan to almost completely de-fund the Wisconsin Arts Board—shrinking it from $2.4 million a year to $759,000 a year.”
