Congratulations to WVAG member Audrey Wilde!

Her artwork, "Endangered Species," graces the cover of the Spring 2014 issue of Contour Notes,
a publication of the Wisconsin Regional Artists Association (WRAA).

When describing her cover art, Audrey says, "I put these cows together to try and emphasize the loss of the family farms in Wisconsin that are being replaced by the large commercial farms."

Audrey is one of the four winners for the yearly cover contest.

Artist Opportunity

An opportunity for artists from David Kapszukiewicz:
Area artists,

On
April 24, 2014 Tomahawk Main Street will hold its Annual Promotion Spring Fling, a downtown Sale & Fundraiser for Main Street.  In the past it has generally been a girls-day-out event where downtown merchants kick-off Spring with sales inside (and outside, weather permitting) their stores.  Christine Vorpagel and I met last December to discuss ways she could bring the arts to Spring Fling.

We are going to be looking for 8-12 artists (all mediums that generally fall under the fine arts category) to display and sell their work (no commissions will be charged) in various downtown businesses--we’d also like some of the artists to be demo-ing. You would be assigned and located in Stores, Banks, Insurance Offices, Investment Offices; & other public spaces in businesses deemed appropriate. This event runs from
3 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, April 24th, however, you certainly can set up as soon as the business location is open (usually 9am and be on location all day).

You will be expected:

  • To set up and take down your work
  • To be present from 3pm to 7pm
  • To provide any signage you need
  • To be professional and respectful
  • To be accessible to patrons
  • To enjoy

To ensure quality of subject and execution, this will be a juried event.  Artists will submit a few images to a small jury for consideration.

This note serves as an introduction and a request for “a show of interest.”  This not a commitment.  I want to hear from you if you feel this kind of event would be of interest to you.  If we get enough interest we’ll put out an official “Call for Artists” request.
The schedule would be as follows:Feb 06:  “Are You Interested” email sent to artist baseFeb 14:  Show of Interest email due from artistsFeb 22:  Call to Artists sent outMar 01:  Submission of 2-3 images (digital only please) of your workMar 07:  Notification of acceptance Mar 14:  Final detailed instructions sent to artists

Responses are welcome till
February 15th.  Any questions should be addressed to me using the contact information below.

David

"Fairies Series" and "Artist Muse" Series – Christine Alfery Exhibit
February 1 - March 31, 2014
Presque Isle Community Library, Presque Isle, WI

Christine will give a presentation at 2 p.m. at the Presque Isle Library on Monday February 17th on: "An Imaginary Place That Really Exists."  Christine says, "To create art an artist must have courage to search and embrace the mystery that lies deeply within the notions of the real and the imagined. To find the song and dance within a work of art the artist must be the medium in which song and dance are transmitted.  Each time I approach a blank canvas I gather up my courage and embrace that space where she allows herself to dance and sing." She will be talking about the spirit and inspirations within her work, the artists muse.
You can view Christine's artwork during the following hours at the Presque Isle Community Library, MWF 10 to 4, Tues/Thurs 4 to 9 and Saturdays 10 to noon.  For more information call the library at 715 686 7613.  Be sure to tell the library staff that you are there to see Christine's work.
