Celebrate summer with plein-air painting and sketching

Hello Art Friends,
Summer is here! Let's celebrate with some plein-air painting and sketching. We will be having paint-outs on Tuesday mornings starting 5/27 at 9 am (we know that is tomorrow and sorry for the short notice) behind the Eye Clinic, 800 N 1st St. Park on the lower back side of the clinic near the river walk. Not sure about painting, then bring your sketchbook and drawing tools. It's all for fun and a great opportunity to get out, work from life, and meet other artists.

A schedule for June will be coming out later this week. Besides Tuesdays, it will also include several Saturday dates. In the meantime, if you know of some painting locations, leave a comment below and we will get them on the list. Please feel free to share this info with others you think may be interested. Thanks everyone!

WRAA’s 5th Annual Tiny Treasures Fundraiser, Competition and Exhibit
Tiny Treasures runs from March 1 through July 11, 2014.
This year the exhibit will be in Wausau because Wausau is the location for this year’s WRAP State Day. Also new this year is the ability to donate your unsold Tiny Treasures to WRAA to be gifted to a nonprofit organization.  Since Wausau is the location for this year’s WRAP State Day, the WVAA (Wisconsin Valley Art Association) has agreed to coordinate donations to local area non-profits including the Neighborhood Place as well as a Women's Shelter.  So rather than sticking your TT in a closet, you can help decorate the shelter and bring smiles to a lot of women.  All you need to do is check the box on the Entry Form that’s attached.
Remember the size restrictions, 2 ½ x 3 ½” with a depth of no more than 1”.  The TTs are free-floated in the mat so you DON’T want to leave a border on your TT – go all the way to the edge.  If they’re larger, you run the risk of them not fitting in the mat.  Send them to me unmated and unframed.  I’ll mat them for you so that every Treasure will be displayed the same way.

Enter as many as you’d like – submit $10 and a separate ID label for each one.  Tiny Treasure entries from prior years can not be submitted again.   A registration form can be found in Contour Notes, downloaded from www.wraawrap.com or, for your convenience, printed from the attachment.

All entries will be exhibited on-line at www.wraawrap.com and at the downtown Wausau library beginning in early August.  If a piece is donated to “Buy-it-Now” it is available for purchase for $25, which benefits the publication of the annual color catalog from WRAP’s statewide exhibit every September.

Not only are there cash prizes for the top 3 Tiny Treasures (1st Place $100, 2nd Place $75 and 3rd Place $50), 12 additional “Treasures” will also be featured in WRAA’s 2014 Timely Treasures pocket calendar. What a great way to get published as well as receive statewide recognition!

You don’t have to be a WRAA member to participate - although new members are always welcome.   Why not have a Tiny Treasure’s party to enjoy making them together with your friends!  Professional and nonprofessional artists are welcome to participate.

Write "Zentangle Class" on outside of envelope

Zentangle (pen and ink) on paper is all the rage...you will want to be "in" on this amazing, fun creative and easy-to-do art form. "Zen" is in the title for a reason....it is relaxing, calming and can create a "sense of well-being". Ginny has taught over 150 people so far over the past year. Although it "looks complicated", the motto in Zentange is "anything" is possible one stroke at a time." If you want to see some of Ginny's Zentangles you can visit her blog and scroll around under the label: Zentanges". http://ginnystiles.blogspot.com
