Birds in Art
September 10 - November 13, 2011
Birds, with timeless appeal, continue to fascinate and inspire us. Their exquisitely detailed and colorful plumage, the majesty of their flight, and their often fragile co-existence with their surroundings have spurred legions of bird enthusiasts. When some of the most talented artists from throughout the world turn their attention to birds, the resulting depictions are breathtaking. Artists, stretching their abilities each year as they strive
to be among those selected for this internationally renowned exhibition, ensure that
Birds in Art always soars to new heights. The thirty-sixth edition of the Woodson Art Museum's flagship exhibition is accompanied by a fully-illustrated, 134-page catalogue.
Painter James Coe is the 2011 Master Artist.

View Repurposed Paper Sculpture
Sculptor-in-residence Steven Siegel has named his Woodson Art Museum sculpture
"Let's fan out." In mid-May Siegel directed the creation of a gently curing wall made of repurposed paper that will grace the sculpture garden for several years to come, weathering to resemble an exposed hillside comprising layers of ancient rock. This acclaimed artist is interested in how his biodegradable sculptures visually impact their surroundings and how they change over time. A corps of volunteers and Museum staff helped Siegel create the sculpture from more than 24,000 tons of donated paper.
Drop by during regular Museum hours (Tuesday-Friday, 9am-4pm;
Saturday & Sunday, Noon-5pm) to see the finished product.
